ISSUE is pleased to stream the debut collaboration between Poughkeepsie-based Joe McPhee and Tokyo-based composer Taku Unami. Despite having never worked together previously, both artists share a similarly liberated approach through their expansive individual discographies and various collaborations.

ISSUE presents slack-tuned, four-string wildman guitarist Bill Orcutt, unbound Bhutanese guitarist Tashi Dorji, and Poughkeepsian creative jazz originary Joe McPhee. All three are tireless improvisers & solo performers -- each possessing an enduring aesthetic that’s as independent as it is profoundly empathic.

Focusing mainly on the combination of Joe McPhee's pocket trumpet and Peter Evans' piccolo trumpet, the pair explores a universe of sound with tiny instruments; noise, melody and silence weave together in an intense yet unhurried conversation Saturday, August 13th at 8pm at ISSUE’s 22 Boerum Place theater.

His stunning multi-octave voice has made him an international star for 40 years, despite relative obscurity in the US.

Charlemagne Palestine, best known for intensely performed piano with unique physical "symbols of identification", performs solo joined by composer and improvisor Joe McPhee– a watershed player of the creative jazz scene– and the poet Steve Dalachinsky, who has long occupied a unique role in the jazz firmament.
