Lea Bertucci

Lea Bertucci is a sound artist and composer whose work bridges performance, installation and multichannel activations of acoustic space. As an instrumentalist, she focuses on an electro-acoustic preparation of the Bass Clarinet that heavily utilizes speaker feedback. In recent years, her projects have expanded to site-specific improvisation, compositions for electronics and instruments, multichannel sound installations and music concrete collage.

Lea Bertucci: Metal Aether

Bertucci celebrates the release of Metal Aether, her second album on NNA Tapes (following 2017’s All That Is Solid Melts Into Air), by presenting recent works for alto saxophone and tape that appear on the record, as well as a new composition that is directly informed by the particular acoustic qualities of 22 Boerum Place.

Olivia Block, Drew McDowall, and Lea Bertucci perform site-responsive solo performances. Each artist observes an individual approach to presenting new work in ISSUE’s theater space, applying the room’s unique acoustics to inform their craft and independent performative methods.

For her third and final show as a 2015 Artist-in-Residence, Lea Bertucci premieres new works for voice, tape and electronics at ISSUE’s 22 Boerum Theater. Developed over the course of 2015/16, these new works embody her recent approaches to composition and recording technique. Environmental sound sources and manipulated instruments/objects form an ominous sound-world, where states of alienation, ambiguity and transcendence are examined.

Anthony Saunders, of seminal harsh noise group Bastard Noise, performs with Bertucci on bass clarinet, celebrating the duo's first cassette.

Lea Bertucci opens her ISSUE Residency with the premiere of "The Cepheid Variations I + II", a pair of new works for pre-recorded sound collage and strings. Born out of an interest in the timbral and acoustic possibilities of harmonics, the pieces combine extended techniques for cello and viola with concrete sound.
