Volunteer / Intern

Volunteer for single events or intern regular hours each week. Volunteers and interns receive free admission to events, depending on ticket availability. Internships are unpaid.

Audio/Video Archiving

Recording, editing, and posting the audio and video of ISSUE Project Room’s evening performances online and in digital format. Compile all of ISSUE’s media from the past, and organize it for searchability, placing links to artist’s sites, and related organizations. Must be organized and meticulous. Interns will be expected to master recordings and set up id tags, edit video and aid in the development of digital distribution. Archiving interns are expected to help out with the general evening operations of ISSUE. 10-15 hours, with two evening performances per week.

Capital Campaign

Working with ISSUE staff, Board, and the Prospect Research & Donor Cultivation Intern, identify donors/businesses/corporations whose primary interests are in supporting capital campaigns. Assist with cultivation events. Draft solicitation and donation acknowledgement letters. Working with the grants research & proposals intern, draft grant proposals for capital campaign. 10-15 hours per week.

Community Partnerships

Develop a prospect list of local businesses and corporations and cultivate owners, publicity and philanthropy officers. Set up meetings with ISSUE senior staff and prospect’s leadership team to explore and develop sponsorships, in-kind donations, and other types of partnerships. 10-15 hours per week.

General Operations

ISSUE Project Room, a non-profit experimental music venue, seeks General Operations Interns for the upcoming season. General Operations Interns will learn about the ins and outs of non-profit operations through working with ISSUE staff and wide variety of performers and artists. Interns will aid in the daily operations of ISSUE Project Room as well as evening events. 10-15 hours with 2 evening performances per week.

Grants Research & Proposal Writing

Research proposals that match our programming and capital campaign initiatives. Contact foundation programming officers. Draft proposals. Work with staff to insure grants timelines are met. 10-15 hours per week.


Assist ISSUE in building its membership base. Draft renewal and donation acknowledgement letters. Ensure that donors receive their benefits. Communicate with members regularly. 10-15 hours per week.

Online Community

Working with staff and an online content producer intern, this position will directly correspond with artists, members, and audiences. Gather and post photos for each event online. Ensure that these photos are posted to ISSUE’s online social networks with credit provided where necessary. After each event or series of events, add links, slideshows, or other related content to the site, compiling a weekly roundup of links, photos, press, and media. Coordinate with ISSUE to produce live webcasts and act as chat moderator for these live webcasts. Respond to all inquiries that come in via facebook, flickr, youTube, myspace, and twitter. Add contacts and build ISSUE’s presence on social networks, creating value for the community all around must be comfortable developing relationships with people. 10-15 hours per week.

Online Media & Marketing

Assist staff with website and marketing through updating the ISSUE Project Room website with events, posting events on facebook, and other online event listing sites as well as managing the content on the site, including adding new photos, announcements, and media. Produce online content including interviews with artists and members, post ISSUE’s video and audio media archive online, create webcasts of live events. Must be comfortable with HTML. 20-25 hours per week.

Prospect Research & Cultivation Events

Learn how to conduct major donor prospect research and build donor profiles. Draft solicitation letters and emails. Assist in planning and execution of cultivation events. Contact organizations and individuals for in-kind gifts to offset event costs. 10-15 hours per week with attendance at select evening events. 10-15 hours per week.

Sound Engineering

Work with a wide range of artists during ISSUE Project Room’s evening performances. Help performers set up equipment, sound-check and run the mixing board during performances. All sound engineering interns are also expected to help with the general evening operations of ISSUEs. 10-15 hours with 2 evening performances per week.

Clarinetist Carol Robinson and trumpeter Nate Wooley give American and World Premieres of new works by iconoclastic French composers Denis Dufour and Eliane Radigue. Radigue's "Occam" pieces are part of a substantial set of new works composed with a small group of the world’s finest contemporary musical voices.

Electronics manipulator Tim Goss, formerly of the Shadow Ring, appears with Call Back the Giants, an inter-generational duo with his daughter, Chloe Mutter. Vanessa Rossetto conjures evocative visual-soundscapes in a duo with guest TBA. Matt Krefting presents his refined, textural soundscapes in a solo performance.

An opera scene by Paul Pinto features renowned vocalist Joan La Barbara as the posthumous spirit of Thomas Paine. Gelsey Bell’s "Weight", written for Ne(x)tworks and ISSUE's theater, receives its world premiere. Miguel Frasconi’s "Sun Studies", interprets The Cantilever Rainbow, a poetic and visual text from 1965.
