Tonight’s program focuses on so-called “silent music,” dramatically reductive chamber music that hovers on the edge of audibility. With strong roots in Cageian aesthetics, the principal exponents of this music are the members of the multi-national collective of composer/performer known as the Wandelweiser Group.
David Behrman performs Long Throw with Joseph Kubera, John King and Cleek Schrey. The piece was one of three works by three composers commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as music for the 2007 dance, “eyeSpace.” Long Throw makes use of 21st Century digital technology -- music software and sound sensors -- and has performance roles for the core musicians of the Company in 2007: Christian Wolff, Takehisa Kosugi, John King and Stephan Moore.

In this intimate piano concert, Kubera performs works by Julius Eastman, Michael Byron, “Blue” Gene Tyranny, and Stuart Saunders Smith.
Program includes: Tom Johnson, An Hour For Piano (1971) and Philip Glass, Knee Plays from Einstein on the Beach (1976). Line-up includes: Joseph Kubera (piano); Mary Rowell (violin, arrangements); Geoff Burleson and Joseph Kubera (organs); Eve Beglarian and Ekmeles vocal ensemble (voices).
In celebration of Laurie Spiegel's 65th Birthday, ISSUE Project Room is pleased to host a reception and piano concert of her work. The evening begins with a 45-minute informal gallery show and concludes with a rare performance of some of Spiegel's very personal solo piano pieces performed by Joseph Kubera.
