Vitiello and Berg will perform selections from their recent CD The Gorilla Variations (12k). “I must admit I can’t remember exactly what the concept behind this limited 12k release is. And in some ways it’s not relevant as I like to, generally speaking, take things on a more musical basis. And I have to say this really surprised and delighted me. The combination of Vitiello’s undeniable talent for creating compelling sound works coupled with Molly Berg’s lush vocal elements along with clarinet and field recordings is just absolutely wonderful. There’s a distinct and playful sound that works alongside some seriously gorgeous tracks to make an album that works on a number of levels. Processed guitars and other instruments (including several exotic sounding ones) form the main meat of the pieces and, again, I have to say that Molly’s breathy, seductive vocal sounds add such a layer of warmth and melody to everything that it’s hard not to be instantly charmed. Her voice is used more as an extra instrument than in a lyrical way and that, for me, is always exciting. Each track is delightful, each moment a joy and I have to say that this is absolutely one of my favourite releases on the limited 12k offshoot so far. Quite a brilliant album and one that really benefits from being on the low-key side of things. Marvellous.” Smallfish Records
