For the second installment of her 2015 ISSUE residency, Lea Bertucci presents two duo sets of new music with collaborators Bradley Eros (film projections) and Anthony Saunders (modular synth, amplified metal). The evening features Bertucci exploring the sonic qualities of a decrepit alto saxophone that sat in the basement of Bradley Eros’ home for 25 years. She is joined by Eros, who creates a live collage of 35mm slide and 16mm film projections. A second duo features Anthony Saunders, of seminal harsh noise group Bastard Noise, with Bertucci on bass clarinet. This performance celebrates the release of the duo’s first cassette on Saunders’ RSM record label.
Lea Bertucci is a sound artist and composer whose work bridges performance, installation and multichannel activations of acoustic space. As an instrumentalist, she focuses on an electro-acoustic preparation of the Bass Clarinet that heavily utilizes speaker feedback. In recent years, her projects have expanded to site-specific improvisation, compositions for electronics and instruments, multichannel sound installations and music concrete collage. Bertucci has been an Artist-in-Residence at The Wave Farm, Smack Mellon, LMCC, and The Queens Museum of Art. She was awarded Young Composers' commissions from Roulette in 2008 and 2012. Her debut solo LP, Resonance Shapes was released in 2013 on the Obsolete Units label. Collaborators include Leila Bordreuil, G. Lucas Crane, Bhob Rainey, and Eli Keszler. She has performed solo and collaborative works at venues such as The Kitchen, Anthology Film Archives, Caramoor, Artists' Television Access (SF), Incubator Arts, Experimental Intermedia, The Wave Farm, Roulette, The Queens Museum of Art and the High Zero Festival among many others. She is a 2015 Artist-in-Residence at ISSUE Project Room.
Bradley Eros is an artist working in myriad media: experimental film and video, collage, photography, performance, sound, text, contracted and expanded cinema & installation. His work has been exhibited widely at institutions including the Whitney Museum, MoMA, PS1, the New York, London and Rotterdam Film Festivals, Performa09, Exit Art, The Kitchen, Light Industry, ISSUE Project Room, the Warhol Museum, and many others. Eros has collaborated with the Alchemical Theater, the band Circle X, Voom HD Lab, expanded cinema groups kinoSonik and Arcane Project, and currently Optipus (film group). For many years he has worked with the New York Filmmakers’ Cooperative, Anthology Film Archives, and co-directed the Roberta Beck Mercurial Cinema.
Anthony Saunders has been making abstract electronic music since 1995 under his own name, and with his projects Dataclast and E.I.D. Since 2014 he has played with Bastard Noise. In the past decade his performances have involved self-built max/msp patches, amplified junk metal, and modular synthesis. He is interested in structured improvisation, texture, tension, and dynamics, drawing on traditions of cut-up in harsh noise and electro-acoustic music. Saunders’s releases can be found on Factotum, Troniks, Hospital Productions, RSM, and other independent labels. His collaborators include Eric Wood, James Mercer, Ahlzagailzehguh, Developer, and Lea Bertucci, with whom he toured as a duo in 2013.
