The Aura Electric, Opus Three will be performed by the Mat Maneri / Randy Petersen Duo, two of the most innovative and distinctive artists on the downtown improvised scene; The Project One Ensemble performing works for electric string quartet (George Crumb’s Black Angels and a world premiere by Michael Spassov).

The Aura Electric, Opus Three explores the sound world of amplified strings by juxtaposing different approaches to composed and improvised electric chamber music. The relationship between composed and improvised music as well as the role of technology in will be expanded through a discussion with the artists and audience and in program essay whose departure point is Walter Benjamin’s concept of the aura of a work of art.

By converging contemporary improvised and new music, Project One presents provocative programs that explore the vitality and philosophical and cultural contexts of music today through performance and discussion.
