Following initial phase of renovations on ISSUE's downtown Brooklyn theater, the organization returns home in Spring 2016 for a special series of performances utilizing the unique acoustic properties of the space before the final stage of construction begins.
Japanese artists Takahiro Kawaguchi and Makoto Oshiro have collaborated for years as the live performance and installation trio The Great Triangle. These unconventional artists experiment with self-made sound-making devices and everyday objects to create configurations of sound with discrete relationships to performance spaces. Tuesday, March 22nd at 8pm, a special evening at ISSUE Project Room’s 22 Boerum Place theater features solo sets by both artists. Kawaguchi, who describes his work as “space recognition through the sounds”, performs a work for handmade acoustic horns and small objects, drawing on his recent release with Utah Kawasaki, Amorphous Spores (Erstwhile). Oshiro combines diverse materials including electronic devices and household products in a solo improvisation.
★ This event is preceded by an open-bar reception for ISSUE Members at 7pm.
Organized by Lawrence Kumpf.
