ISSUE celebrates its 20th Anniversary at our 22 Boerum Pl. theater with projections of eight audio-visual works commissioned for our Distant Pairs Series (2020-2022). During three years, the Series engaged thirty-six artists, across eighteen programs that paired artists in disparate locations who could not work together in “traditional” ways over the past three years. The Distant Pairs series examined the collaborative process, methods of working, and partnership amidst the constrained conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heroes Are Gang Leaders: The Day We Gave The Globes Back, A Sing Along! (projected redux)

ISSUE celebrates its 20th Anniversary at our 22 Boerum Pl. theater with projections of work commissioned from Heroes Are Gang Leaders, a literary free jazz ensemble of writers, artists and musicians. The performance titled The Day We Gave The Globes Back, A Sing Along!, was recorded and streamed as a part of the 2020 Brooklyn Book Festival featuring an expansive fourteen-member band that included the full group’s lineup as well as multiple embedded solos and ensemble formations of the group’s various members.

This Fall marks ISSUE Project Room’s 20th Anniversary to be celebrated with a series of commissioned programs, orbiting around our annual Gala and affiliated Benefit events. Between Friday, September 29th and Saturday, Nov 4th, ISSUE invites audiences to experience a special series of twenty limited-capacity programs including new commissions and restaging of programs specifically designed for ISSUE’s unique environment.

ISSUE Member Mixtape 006: Shelley Burgon

Each year, ISSUE Project Room commissions and creates a limited edition Mixtape for the organization’s members. ISSUE is pleased to announce that our 20th Anniversary Member Mixtape will feature harpist, composer, sound artist, and longtime ISSUE collaborator Shelley Burgon. The Mixtape features performances from ISSUE’s archive with additional computer processing by Burgon. Each Mixtape comes with a digital download and a J-Card designed by the artist.

75 DOLLAR BILL: LITTLE BIG BAND + DUO

ISSUE is pleased to present a special outdoor performance featuring Che Chen and Rick Brown’s celebrated duo 75 Dollar Bill performing in both their “little big band” ensemble format and in duo formation. The event marks the 10 year anniversary of 75 Dollar Bill’s first appearance at ISSUE—memorably performed under a brightly colored fabric canopy for the musicians and audience to gather under by Talice Lee.

ISSUE is pleased to present multidisciplinary artists Lime Rickey International & Masma Dream World as part of ISSUE Project Room's 2023 Fall Season. Introduced to each other’s practice through ISSUE, Lime Rickey International (Leyya Mona Tawil, 2020 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow) and Masma Dream World (Devi Mambouka) will present work with ISSUE for the first time.

ISSUE presents the dance world's favorite doppelgangers, Benedict Nguyễn (2019 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow) and Anh Vo, in their first-ever collaborative performance as part of ISSUE Project Room's 2023 Fall Season. Nguyễn returns to ISSUE this season to perform her own work alongside fellow dancer and writer Vo.
