Jackson-Pratt: The Microscope’s Slide: Live Painting Music No. 8 (for T.M.)
Saturday, February 15th at 8pm, ISSUE is pleased to present 2025 Artist-In-Residence Jackson-Pratt’s first commission The Microscope’s Slide: Live Painting Music No. 8 (for T.M.), a multichannel performance piece using microphonic electronics and live painting, transforming the traditional viewing experience through a custom reactive canvas. The presentation will take place at ISSUE’s 22 Boerum Pl. theater.
Throughout his year-long residency, Jackson-Pratt’s visual art will reveal itself to us sonically. For the artist, paint is sound: “thematically, when it comes to my work, I'm drawing some very literal parallels between painting and audio creation. In a bold, pithy and I guess somewhat abstract way I'd like the visual work to literally be audio. Visual art is the audio object, and vice versa, the art object is audio.”
Jackson-Pratt (Seany Nuelle) is a multimedia artist based in Queens. Over the last decade Seany has honed a body of work focused on highly dynamic, saturation-based audio. He also creates large-scale paintings and visual works that coincide with audio performance. His current focus is to draw an obtainable line between extreme audio/sound/music works, (albeit noise or otherwise) and the visual language. Sonically he strives to make music that is “unignorable” and “hyperconscious” in nature through the use of rapid editing, and diverse and often polarizing sound sources, all mixed with a distinctly human touch. Performances combine these approaches with visual works on reactive or symbolic surfaces. Seany has long worked within the greater NYC DIY community, and under the moniker Jackson-Pratt, he has performed in over 10 countries across the globe.
