For her third and final show as a 2015 Artist-in-Residence, Lea Bertucci will premiere new works for voice, tape and electronics at ISSUE’s 22 Boerum Theater. Developed over the course of 2015/16, these new works embody her recent approaches to composition and recording technique. Environmental sound sources and manipulated instruments/objects form an ominous sound-world, where states of alienation, ambiguity and transcendence are examined.
The performance will feature guest vocalists Max Alper, Amirtha Kidambi, and Kathleen Baird.
Lea Bertucci is a sound artist, composer and performer whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. Her work incorporates multi-channel speaker arrays, electroacoustic feedback, extended instrumental/vocal technique, and tape collage. As an instrumentalist, she takes an idiosyncratic approach to the amplification of woodwind instruments, creating organic yet electrified sonic interventions. Her debut solo LP, Resonance Shapes, was released in 2013 on the Obsolete Units label and has been praised by A Closer Listen as "A grand exploration of the possibilities inherent in sound”. She is a 2015 ISSUE Project Room Artist-in-Residence and is a Harvestworks New Works Fellow. Her discography includes a number of solo and collaborative releases on various underground independent labels in the US and Europe.
