z-plane is a meeting of the minds of Ras Moshe, Jackson Krall, Hans Tammen, Dafna Naphtali and Giles Hendrix in a third dimension of their own creation. It is a collaboration between members of two unique ensembles plus video.

Ras Moshe (saxophones) and Jackson Krall (drums) are regularly performing with Ras' Music Now Unit and countless other esteemed projects (Krall also with Cecil Taylor). Dafna Naphtali and Hans Tammen have long collaborated as the core of Mechanique(s) - their live computed-based electronics and audio processing duo with "endangered guitar" and voice - and are also involved in an eclectic array of other projects.

z-plane quartet will set both of these projects on a crazed collision course of the acoustic and the electronic intersecting in yet another way with video artist and bunker-at Subtonic veteran Giles Hendrix - they'll be checking out and playfully undermining the overlap of their technical and aesthetic practices.

Naphtali's interactive processed sound/ "audio machinations" will filter/sample and otherwise mutate her 4-octave voice as well as the others: Hans Tammen's mechanical and energetic laptop manipulations, Rax Moshe's "fine aggressive" multi-instrumentals ("on the forefront of musicians keeping avant garde jazz urgent and vital" - AllAboutJazz.com) and the drums of Jackson Krall ("a sound sculptor of major significance." - William Parker), with Hendrix's audiodriven video manipulations.
