Lime Rickey International

ISSUE is pleased to present multidisciplinary artists Lime Rickey International & Masma Dream World as part of ISSUE Project Room's 2023 Fall Season. Introduced to each other’s practice through ISSUE, Lime Rickey International (Leyya Mona Tawil, 2020 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow) and Masma Dream World (Devi Mambouka) will present work with ISSUE for the first time.

BEAM SPLITTER

ISSUE celebrates its 20th Anniversary and Fall 2023 season at the First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn Heights with internationally renowned musician and composer Roscoe Mitchell, joined by composer/clarinetist John McCowen, plus a performance from duo project BEAM SPLITTER (Audrey Chen and Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø).

75 DOLLAR BILL: LITTLE BIG BAND + DUO

ISSUE is pleased to present a special outdoor performance featuring Che Chen and Rick Brown’s celebrated duo 75 Dollar Bill performing in both their “little big band” ensemble format and in duo formation. The event marks the 10 year anniversary of 75 Dollar Bill’s first appearance at ISSUE—memorably performed under a brightly colored fabric canopy for the musicians and audience to gather under by Talice Lee.

ROCKET SCIENCE (PETER EVANS, IKUE MORI, SAM PLUTA, CRAIG TABORN)

ISSUE is pleased to present a rare performance from Rocket Science, a collaborative improvising ensemble formed in 2012. Initially composed of Evan Parker, Peter Evans, Sam Pluta, and Craig Taborn, the group has expanded on occasion to include Ikue Mori on live electronics. Rocket Science released a critically acclaimed eponymous album on More is More Records in 2013 and has appeared at festivals such as Big Ears, Moers, and Guelph.

2023 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow evil dentist (Alice Gerlach and David Farrow) present “everything must go!,” a durational office space performance featuring performances by Cal Fish and More Eaze. This is their second program in Corporate Retreat, a curated series of performances appropriating the banality of office space to reimagine the relationship between artistic practice and community building.

LEILA BORDREUIL & LUKE STEWART: NEW WORKS FOR FEEDBACK ENSEMBLE - CHRIS CORSANO, JULIA SANTOLI, NINA GARCIA, NATE WOOLEY, C. SPENCER YEH

ISSUE is pleased to present new works from cellist, composer and sound-artist Leila Bordreuil and DC/NYC-based musician and organizer Luke Stewart’s Feedback Ensemble, a raucous group of musicians utilizing their own feedback apparatuses—in addition to their instruments—to explore graphic scores, sound, noise, and improvisation. Centering techniques of sonic feedback generation within instrumental practice, the notated compositions will emerge through a radically collaborative process, in which performers co-create the works.
