Alvin Lucier’s I am sitting in a room (projected redux) with Joan La Barbara, Abigail Levine, James McNew and James Fei
ISSUE celebrates its 20th Anniversary at our 22 Boerum Pl. theater with projections of Alvin Lucier’s I am sitting in a room, recorded for his 90th Birthday Celebration, presented by ISSUE in May 2021. The evening includes versions of Lucier’s paradigmatic 1969 work I am sitting in a room from Joan La Barbara, Abigail Levine & James McNew all created during isolated stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, plus Lucier himself recorded live at ISSUE’s Boerum theater in 2017. The evening will also feature a panel conversation with La Barbara, Levine and McNew focusing on their presentations and Lucier’s legacy, moderated by James Fei.

James Fei: Sine of Merit III
James Fei performs Sine of Merit III, a solo electronics piece with transducers and feedback. Fei's setup consists of a mix of old modular equipment and homebrewed circuits. The system is driven by multiple feedback loops, often on the brink of instability with signals recursively routed through microphones, spring reverb, and converted between audio and control voltages.

Thursday, June 15th, ISSUE presents the debut trio performance between Fei, Kato and and veteran NYC percussionist Sean Meehan.. Their practice is described by The Wire as “no casual knob twiddling -- [with] Kato’s sense of timing as dramatic as it was with Ikue Mori and Fred Frith in their storied trio group Death Ambient, and Fei approaching the business of making music with deadly earnestness.”
Thursday, June 15th, ISSUE presents a rare evening with James Fei (analog electronics) and Kato Hideki (bass, electronics) in duo performance. The evening also sees the debut trio performance between Fei, Kato and and veteran NYC percussionist Sean Meehan.
