Founded in 1970 by Petr Kotik, S.E.M. Ensemble is dedicated to the performance and advancement of new music. Over the past ten years the ensemble's repertoire has included compositions by Cage, Feldman, Kotik, Phil Niblock - much of it written specifically for the ensemble - representing the group's artistic pursuits.

S.E.M. Ensemble performs music where distance – both physical and symbolic – becomes a compositional factor. The program includes a set of solo performances by percussionist and S.E.M. Ensemble member Chris Nappi.

The S.E.M. Ensemble demonstrates Stockhausen's role and influence in music of the late 50s and 60s, via the performance of three works from the early periods of John Cage, Christian Wolff and Petr Kotik.
