Julia Santoli: "spirit is matter" / "the prisoners are becoming ambient"
Julia Santoli premieres two new works within a sculptural landscape: “spirit is matter” with saxophonist Tamio Shiraishi, and “the prisoners are becoming ambient” with electronic artist and PTP label-head Geng.
Julia Santoli opens her 2018 ISSUE residency with the premiere of two new works within her “Siren Sore” cycle: a mutant project of myriad form manifesting as visual project, recording album, and live performance through genre-crossing collaborations. Each new work features Tamio Shiraishi and Geng, respectively.

Leila Bordreuil: Void and Dismissal with Austin Julian, Tamio Shiraishi and Julia Santoli
For her third and final performance as a 2016 Artist-In-Residence, Leila Bordreuil premieres “Void and Dismissal” -- a collaborative piece developed by Bordreuil and composer, guitarist and vocalist Austin Julian (Sediment Club, Sunk Heaven). Featuring Tamio Shiraishi (alto sax) and Julia Santoli (spatialized amplifiers).
Leila Bordreuil premieres a collaborative piece developed with Austin Julian. Featuring Tamio Shiraishi & Julia Santoli, the work combines music and performance art within an operatic structure using homemade instruments / creative amplification methods. An improvised set by Bordreuil and guitarist Bill Nace opens.

SOLD OUT! A rare performance by this original, unrecorded Fushitsusha lineup from the 1970s with founding member, New York-based saxophonist Tamio Shiraishi. Known for its torrential walls of sound, Fushitsusha was formed by Haino in '78— initially with Haino on guitar and vocals, and Shiraishi on synthesizer.

ISSUE Project Room and the Whitney present three nights with Keiji Haino in solo and duo performances with Tamio Shiraishi and Loren Connors. One of the most legendary guitarists to come out of Japan, Keiji Haino is well known for his harsh blues-inspired guitar and torrential walls of sound with his band Fushitsusha.
