ISSUE’s benefit series opens with a VIP reception at 7:30pm, including food, drink and an intimate performance by Gordon with drummer Tim Barnes. The 9:00pm concert is headlined by Gordon’s most recent project, the epic free-noise guitar duo Body/Head joined by Ikue Mori on drums. Guitar legend J Mascis plays solo.

Art Union Humanscape, the duo of Ayako Kato and Jason Roebke, join forces with Tim Barnes for an evening of beautiful absence.

Tim Barnes and Mattin are both major components of the global improv scene. Not only do they constantly collaborate with musicians from all over, but they are also both activists of sorts, with their record labels making sure that the music of the peers is available to whomever seeks it out.

For the 2004 HOWL Festival, ISSUE Project Room will be presenting an interpretation of seminal British avant-garde composer Cornelius Cardew’s 1969 experimental music piece The Great Learning from Paragraph Two.
