James Fei - reeds, buchla modular and other devices
Kato Hideki - bass, bass synth

The duo of James Fei and Kato Hideki moves fluidly between instrumental improvisation (on saxophones and electric bass, respectively) and live electronics. Analog electronics are feedback and altered, including a mixture of old synthesizer units (Buchla, Serge Electro-Harmonix), simple devices such as contact microphones and homemade contraptions. Their recording, Sieves (released in 2004 on Improvised Music From Japan) treats each stage of the recording process as a live performance -- from feeding back the monitor speakers during recording, remixing the performance with analog effects to mixing live into an echo chamber during post-production. They will perform the music from Sieves and also will premiere their new work.
