Kids Raise Money for Tsunami Relief

A Tsunami Relief Benefit featuring performances, songs, poetry, dance, stand-up comedy, rock bands, and an art show all by New York City school kids. Proceeds from the event will go to MADRE, an International Women's Health Rights non-profit organization sending relief aid to tsunami devastated areas. www.madre.org

Performances include: Paddington, a play directed and performed by second grade students of PS29; singing performances by a sophomore at the Dalton School; a fifth grader at St. Luke's School; a fifth grader at Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, joined by classmates providing poetry and dance, respectively. Plus stand-up comedy performed by Jake; followed by the rock band Defibrillator playing a stylistic range from metal to reggae with lyrics focusing on political issues as well as songs about everyday problems in their school; Feedback whose influences include John Lennon, Janis Joplin and more; and a finale by sTUNgUN, the NYC based band of four 14 year old musicians, who are currently working on material for an upcoming demo tape. The group defines its original music as rock-oriented, but it also combines diverse elements of punk and rap into its songs.

ART AUCTION The show will close with a silent art auction with artwork donated by students of PS321, PS20, The Dalton School, Poly Prep School, Berkeley Carroll School, LAB School, among others.
