ISSUE Project Room celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its Artists-In-Residence (AIR) program throughout 2026 with performances by current residents and returning alumni. This anniversary season highlights AIRs whose work reflects the ongoing evolution of a much broader community of experimental artists who have helped shape ISSUE for over twenty years.
Thursday, October 29th at 8pm, ISSUE presents performances by guitarists Noveller, the solo project of Sarah Lipstate (2009 AIR) and Axine M (2024 AIR).
Noveller debuts selections from her latest album, I Am The Weather (2026), alongside music drawn from across her catalog. Working with electric guitar, pedals, and looping, Lipstate builds serendipitous compositions that create what Iggy Pop once described to Jim Jarmusch as “symphonies for people that don’t have a lot of time.”
Returning to ISSUE following her release event for the EP Bored Giant Engine Sputter (2025), Axine M performs with fretless guitar, voice, and computer. With “puppet strings taut between the constellation of musical control points,” she continues her creative exploration across multiple genres and sentiments.
Multi-instrumentalist Sarah Lipstate brings her innovative music to life under the name Noveller. Forming unexpected sonic routes, her songs are vivid and cinematic. Following several years spent collaborating with Iggy Pop, Lipstate returns in 2026 with a new album of her own. Her recent creative period includes writing and recording with Iggy Pop and joining him on a world tour, scoring the acclaimed HBO docuseries “Breath of Fire,” and contributing to the score of the Anthony Bourdain documentary “Roadrunner.” She has also been featured in Mark Ronson’s “Watch The Sound” for Apple TV and “The Pedal Movie,” while soundtracking numerous ads and short films, including a series from Jim Jarmusch for Yves St Laurent.
Axine M is a container for the musical impulses of Maxine de las Pozas. Born in Miami, seasoned by East Coast DIY, and based in Brooklyn. The Ancient Greek term Axenos, or “inhospitable place,” refers to the Black Sea before nautical technology had advanced enough to safely traverse the water. She is the composer and director of Solid Choir. Her experimental techno EP Bored Giant Engine Sputter was released in 2025 on anno records. She was a 2024 ISSUE Project Room Artist-In-Residence, and works as a Technical Director and Sound Engineer.
