MATA presents its 27th annual MATA Festival, this year in partnership with ISSUE Project Room at the limited capacity 22 Boerum Pl. theater. Featuring four concerts across four nights, this year’s festival explores the concept of INTERGALACTIC INFINITY: Music Between Spaces.
ISSUE Project Room hosts a free limited engagement for up to 10 ISSUE Members with RSVP with Thomas Ankersmit on his artistic practice with the Serge Modular analog synthesizer, his main instrument since 2006.
ISSUE Project Room is honored to present a special recording session by composer, poet, and 2021 Artist-In-Residence JJJJJerome Ellis, joined by longtime collaborator S T A R R busby. This intimate event gives unique access to ISSUE Members and launches the 2025 summer membership campaign.
At 2pm, ISSUE hosts a free public town hall organized by sound conceptualist & 2009 ISSUE Artist-In-Residence Matana Roberts–the first in a nationwide series of gatherings.
ISSUE presents Colombian musician & composer Lucrecia Dalt, her first US performance since 2014. Celebrating the recent release of her acclaimed album Anticlines, the evening features Dalt’s interstitial approach to speech & song. Philadelphia-based duo Metasplice also present new work.
ISSUE is thrilled to present a collaborative performance between two of America’s most renowned experimental artists, theater director & visual artist Robert Wilson and film director, actor & musician Jim Jarmusch. In a benefit concert supporting ISSUE Project Room, the two stage a new collaboration.
2019 Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellow Benedict Nguyen curates revolutionary new moon in aquarius (rnma), featuring Ambika Raina, Katrina Reid & lily bo shapiro. The evening is their first program in soft bodies in hard places, a series of trans-disciplinary events circling planetary events over the 2019 season.
Recently amalgamated from deep artistic connections within NYC’s underground, ISSUE presents OTHER ICON, the newly formed trio of NYC artists King Vision Ultra, sound ritual project of PTP imprint head Geng, experimental synthesist, composer& performer Via App, and digi-poet and musician YATTA.
ISSUE opens its 2019 season with an impressive gathering of ISSUE alumni from across the organization’s history. Featuring a roving program of deeply experimental artists, the evening welcomes back Matana Roberts, Haley Fohr of Circuit des Yeux, & Suzanne Langille + Daniel Carter, Neel Murgai & Loren Connors.
ISSUE commemorates the close of the 2018 season with a special year-end event featuring avant-garde industrial duo Wetware, as well as a rare collaborative performance between Shelley Hirsch & Marcia Bassett. James Hoff DJs around the performances. Entrance and drinks are free for ISSUE Members.
James K’s residency culminates with American Womin, a convergence of distinct personas existing across her work. James K debuts the personas as a multimedia live set, presenting them within an overlapping practice spanning voice, modular synthesis, live instrumentation, sampling alchemy, movement & video.
ISSUE presents composers Lainie Fefferman & Seth Cluett premiering new works developed in collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs, evoking a profound history of collaboration and shared dialogue between artists & engineers.
