Kabir Carter: Feelings Are Rooms

Kabir Carter opens his 2017 Residency with a solo performance introducing his practice to the historic architecture of ISSUE’s 22 Boerum Theater. Recently, Carter has reduced his performances to include little to no external signal processing and effects. Instead, he uses his own physical movements and gestures to produce and modulate sound in space.

A cult phenomenon of cathartic, sonic possibility -- The Necks have been praised by the LA Times as “among the world’s greatest forces in music,” developing their distinct and enthralling sound over three decades, nineteen albums, and countless performances across the world.

The Necks 30th Anniversary: Solo Performances - Tony Buck

Tony Buck has been performing solo concerts for at least two decades. In the past, these performances have often incorporated live electronics and sampling, but, in the last 10 years or so, he has concentrated on creating live, improvised pieces using the drum kit, assorted small percussion instruments, guitar, video and other acoustic sound sources.

The Necks 30th Anniversary: Solo Performances - Lloyd Swanton

Thursday, February 23rd, Lloyd Swanton performs a solo sets showcasing his distinct instrumental approach that emphasizes his independent performative contribution to the collaborative music of The Necks. Apart from leading The catholics, Lloyd Swanton has performed with many of the cornerstones of Australian music.

Cecilia Lopez

Composer, musician and installation artist Cecilia Lopez presents RED -- a work investigating interactions with unstable acoustic feedback systems. Often taking different iterations, the piece consists in building an acoustic feedback environment by setting up several wire nets and placing them in relation to the architectural features of the space.

Mario de Vega

Known for his electronic improvisation and use of infrasound, Mario de Vega works in a variety of media, including performance, design, video, sculpture and photography -- all coinciding in an impressive collection of site-specific sonic interventions and acoustic events. De Vega performs his unique approach to spatialized sound February 16th, 2017 at ISSUE.

Anaïs Maviel

Fearless improviser, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Anaïs Maviel presents a special solo set, for her debut performance at ISSUE Project Room. Maviel performs a solo vocal set, accompanying herself on the surdo (Brazilian drum) and n’goni (West African harp).
