Throughout 2026, past Artists-in-Residence and Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellows will activate ISSUE Online (io) — an evolving platform for digital-first works — in celebration of the 20th anniversary of ISSUE’s AIR program.
On Tuesday, October 6th at 12pm EDT, the next installment of io brings together choreographer Kim Brandt (2015 AIR) and Isabella Thorpe-Woods (2026 SFCF). Centered around never-before-released footage from Clear Night (2016)—Brandt's eight-day durational AIR commission at Pioneer Works—the project revisits a performance that has remained largely unseen for nearly a decade.
Through conversation, the installment reflects on the afterlife of a performance, asking what traces or "ghost notes" remain after an event ends. Together, they explore questions of presence and archival practice in an era increasingly focused on the digital realm.
Kim Brandt has presented her work at MoMA/PS1, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Beach Sessions, Pace Gallery, SculptureCenter, The Kitchen, The Clark, ISSUE Project Room, Pioneer Works, Bric, 411 Kent, Artists Space, Catskill Art Space, Ceysson & Benetiere, Klaus Von Nichtssagend and AVA Gallery, among others. Her work has been supported by The Irving Sandler Prize (2023), a Princeton University Hodder Fellowship (2020-2021), a NYFA Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Arts (2018), a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award (2017), the Mertz Gilmore Foundation (2016-2018), a Jerome Foundation Travel & Study Grant (2016), and a Brooklyn Arts Fund Grant (2016). She's been an artist in residence at The Chocolate Factory (2024), Triangle (2022-2023), Sharpe-Walentas (2021-2022), Chinati Foundation (2019), MoMA/PS1 (2017-2018), Djerassi (2018), Movement Research (2021; 2016-2018), Bogliasco Foundation (2016), and ISSUE Project Room (2015). Recent press has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Spigot, Cultured Magazine, AirMail, Art in America, Artsy, Performa Magazine, BOMB Magazine, Artforum, Girls Like Us and Marfa Public Radio.
Isabella Thorpe-Woods is a British curator, performer and interdisciplinary artist from London, based in New York. Her work has been presented by New Dance Alliance, Essex Flowers, Lagoon NY, Life World and PAGEANT among others. She has produced and facilitated for Performa, Tate Modern and Supr Omen, and worked with artists including Lina Lapelytė, Alexa West, Lili Dekker, Julia Antinozzi, Amelia Heintzelman, Ayo Ohs, Kati Kirsch, Christopher Gambino and many more. She was the Performance Studies Research Fellow at the University of Sussex 2018-19, travelling to ImPulstanz Vienna. In addition, Isabella co-founded Little by little Brooklyn, an arts organization that included a performance residency program at the Brooklyn Peace Center, an art gallery housed inside a cafe’s mop closet called the Alcove, and other events. She holds an MA in Performance Studies from NYU Tisch.
